Attendance and Punctuality

Attendance Campaign | Early Help Nottingham

At Cantrell Primary and Nursery School we want the best for all our children in our care. Regular and punctual attendance is a key part of this journey, helping our children grow, learn, and thrive in a nurturing, supportive environment.

We know that when children attend school regularly, they not only benefit academically but also socially and spiritually, building strong foundations for their future. Each day is a new opportunity for them to discover their potential and form positive relationships.

Attendance and punctuality are a vital part of safeguarding, and we have a duty of care to ensure that all children are safe.

The expectation of both Cantrell Primary School and the Government is that every pupil has a minimum of 96% attendance. Cantrell Primary School works closely with the Education Welfare Service to maintain a high standard of school attendance.

Reporting absences

It is the responsibility of parents and carers to report their child's absences.

All absences should be reported to the attendance officer or to the school office by 9:30am. A parent/carer should notify the school on the first day of absence by calling 0115 9155770 or emailing attendance@cantrell.nottingham.sch.uk.

If we have any questions/queries regarding an absence, or we have not received a reason, we reserve the right to send our Attendance Improvement Lead to conduct a home visit.

School Day and Punctuality

  • The school day begins at 8:45am
  • The school gates open at 8:30am and close at 8:50am
  • If your child arrives after 8:50am, they should report to the school office.
5 minutes late per day = 10 minutes late per day = 15 minutes late per day = 20 minutes late per year = 30 minutes late per day =
3 days lost per year 6.5 days lost per year 10 days lost per year 13 days lost per year 19 days lost per year

Persistent lateness can lead to penalty charges being issued by the Education Welfare Officer.

Our attendance policy is available to view on our policies page.
